Tory Willis Nearly Makes A U-Turn on Path Parking Ban

Pressure from Labour, including two Freedom of Information requests from me and a question to Cabinet have forced the Tory-led Council to reconsider its plan to fine all people partially parking on the pavement.  I reported the campaign we led here.

It now seems that when Cabinet is asked to approve the introduction of a ‘Controlled Parking Zone’ they will also agree to publish a list of exempted roads which the public will be consulted on before it is finalised.  They have agreed that roads should be exempted automatically if there is no adequate off-street parking for one or more vehicles per household and the road is not wide enough to allow vehicles to park on either or both sides of the street without obstructing the road.

This is a victory for common sense, but if it had not been for Labour’s campaign, the Tory-led Council would have brought in a blanket ban without any consultation with local people.  That would have been totally unacceptable.  I will publish the roads in Redlands that have been exempted as soon as we are allowed to know them, please let me know if you think your road should have been included.
